What do you see…

A few years ago, I bought a new car.

As soon as I drove it off the lot, I started to see so many cars on the road exactly like mine! Same color, same style, same everything!

I had never noticed before how many people were driving this same car.

My eyes were opened and suddenly I saw this car everywhere!

It is the same with our spiritual eyes…

When we ask God to open our spiritual eyes, we begin to see things that we never saw before.

We see small miracles, small God winks, small divine interactions on the daily!

Often the world will chalk it up to “coincidence”.

As Christ followers, we know better.

One of my favorite passages in God’s Word about our spiritual eyes comes from 2 Kings 6:17-20.

A short summary of this story is that Elisha and his servant were encamped by enemies. Elisha’s servant was literally petrified.

The servant asked Elisha, “What shall we do?”

Elisha answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

When the servants eyes were opened he saw God’s protection and army around them. He saw what was REALLY happening!

The spiritual world is all around us! It is more alive than our physical world.

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.". Ephesians 6:12

We just do not choose to see it.

We easily forget.

We tend to have to see to believe, instead of believe to see.

God’s Word tells us to walk by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

There are miracles all around us. Every single moment.

As the wildfires rage out in the beautiful state of California, I keep praying that miracle stories will come out of this horrible disaster.

I keep thinking of Daniel and his two friends thrown into the fiery furnace because they would not worship an idol. You can find the entire passage in Daniel 3.

There was no possible way they could have survived—except that Jesus was with them in that furnace.

The King was amazed when he saw that suddenly 4 men were in the furnace. We have to assume this was Jesus.

When they did not perish in the fire, the King was amazed…

“They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.”

Y’all! They did not even smell like smoke!

I am praying for miracles just like this one to be made public and shared through this California tragic situation.

God is a God of Miracles.

God did not just perform miracles in the past, HE still performs them today.

Are we seeing them though?

A better question may be…are we looking for them?

I am praying for you and for me, and for all of us…the same prayer that Elisha prayed over his servant…

“Lord, open our eyes so that we may see.”

Let this be our prayer every single morning as we wipe the sleep from our eyes.

open my eyes Lord,

jill
