The thing we need MOST…
Well, here we are.
2025.
I remember as a little girl thinking that in 2025, I would be ANCIENT.
Haha.
Well, ancient or not, here we are!
As this New Year emerges, a constant word is on my heart.
Wisdom.
Wisdom is something that I pray DAILY for over me, my husband and my two kids.
Actually, I desperately ask God for a triple portion of wisdom because we need it badly.
This world we live in, and our culture, makes it hard to distinguish truth from lies.
We are bombarded with conflicting messages.
This is where wisdom comes in.
Did you know that you can’t “smart” your way into wisdom?
Wisdom can only be obtained by God.
”For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
Intellect is not the same as wisdom.
We can be not so savvy in intellect, but still be incredibly wise.
Do you know the benefits of wisdom?
Whoa.
There are so many!!
The book of Proverbs is chock full of the benefits of wisdom. It is also full of the consequences of not having wisdom. Eek.
God’s Word tells us…
Wisdom is more profitable than silver, yields better returns than gold, more precious than rubies, NOTHING you desire can compare with wisdom. (Proverbs 3:13-15)
He also says that long life is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor. Wisdom’s ways are pleasant and all her paths lead to peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of wisdom and those that have wisdom will be blessed. (Proverbs 3:16-18)
Wow!!
He tells us that wisdom will always lead us on the right path and we will not stumble.
Wisdom is life to those who find her and brings health to the whole body. (Proverbs 4:22)
ALL of these things can be found in the first few chapters of Proverbs.
Proverbs are like multi-vitamins. They are so good for us! We need to take them DAILY!
As a momma, I need wisdom every second of my day.
As a wife, I need wisdom.
As a daughter, I need wisdom.
Just to leave my house and go to the grocery store, I need wisdom.
Evil lurks everywhere.
Just turn on the news and we can find it.
Wisdom will be that gentle whisper in our ear telling us which path to take. Wisdom will bring discernment and good judgement in every area.
Wisdom will help us in our relationships, in our health, in our finances, in our careers….
Wisdom is needed in everything we do!
When my children were little and I would drive them to school, I would always pray this prayer over them before their little feet left my car…
Joseph and Presley…”Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
I still pray this over them!
When my children moved out of the house and onto college, I prayed frantically for their protection.
Since I could not be there to tell them what to do, I started praying fervently for them to have wisdom.
God’s Word says, “Do not forsake wisdom and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.” Proverbs 4:6
So, how do we get this priceless thing called wisdom?
We ask Him for it.
So simple.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5
We also read and obey His Word.
Proverbs 4:20-22 tells us to not let His words out of our sight. They are LIFE to those who find them and health to our whole body!
Wisdom covers everything we need!
We must ask God for it. We must seek Him and ask.
He will give it to us, He promises us this.
Sometimes, I get overwhelmed by looming decisions.
Sometimes, nothing seems clear.
Sometimes, the path seems super foggy and lacking clarity.
This is where wisdom comes in.
We ask God for help.
We ask God for wisdom.
One thing to keep in mind, wisdom doesn’t align with wordly intellect and wordly wisdom. Nope.
God’s Wisdom is different. It will look different.
It is often the narrow path that few people are walking instead of the wide path that many are walking.
No matter where Wisdom leads, follow Him. He sees what we do not see.
The more we lean into Him and His wisdom, the more we will begin to trust Him and seek Him.
Starting today, let’s start asking God for a triple portion of wisdom for ourselves and our families! Let’s make this our daily prayer.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
ancient and seeking wisdom,
