Happy Monday SHINE girls! Are you ready to start a brand new week? Me too!

Aren't fresh starts just the best?

Speaking of fresh starts, I bet old Saul from our reading would have liked a few fresh starts.

Good grief. Poor Saul.

Saul, Saul, Saul.

He just never learns does he?

From the beginning, he just doesn't make a good impression. Remember when Samuel calls him up to introduce him to the crowd to become the "King"? Saul was hiding behind the supplies.

20 When Samuel had all Israel come forward by tribes, the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. 21 Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri’s clan was taken. Finally Saul son of Kish was taken. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. 22 So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?”

And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.”
1 Samuel 10:20-22

What?

What kind of king hides among the supplies instead of introducing himself to his new subjects?

Saul is, that's who.

Saul teaches us in today's reading and our upcoming reading what happens when we let sin creep in. Darkness creeps in...and the Light of the Father creeps out.

We cannot live in darkness and in the Light at the same time. We must choose.

Our Memory Verse is a good reminder to live in the Light of the Father. We are set apart, and we should not be hidden among the world.

"You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden."
Matthew 5:14

I encourage you to let the Light of Jesus shine brightly through you this week! In ALL you do, remember that you are representing Christ!

Let's be challenged this week to not "hide among the supplies" in this world. We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do great things! {Ephesians 2:20}

Starting today, I want you to picture yourself standing on a hill and shining your light bright for all the world to see!

Remember, too, that others are watching us. We stand out because we bear the Name of Christ. We must make sure that we are shining bright for HIM, and not blowing our light out by our words and poor behavior.

Let's light up our city for Christ this week, girls! Are you ready?

no hiding,

jill
