Happy Worship Wednesday, sweet SHINE girls!
I've been thinking a lot about our memory verse this week.
"Teach me what this means, Lord." This has been my prayer this week.
He's shown me a few things.
He is showing me that to love Him is to trust Him. Completely.
He is showing me that to love Him is to hate sin. Completely.
He is showing me that to love Him is to believe that He is bigger than my weaknesses. Completely.
He is showing me that at times I love myself more than Him when I think that my biggest weaknesses are bigger than His ability to heal me.
If I am to truly love Him with all of my heart, all of my soul, and all of my strength....I must believe Him. Completely.
Some days are much better than others in this discipline of truly loving Him in this way.
I say discipline, because it is a trained mindset. It doesn't come easy for us flesh minded girls to love our Heavenly Father with complete abandon.
Oh, we love Him, but we hold back. Just like we do in our earthly relationships. We hold back a little, just in case the love is not returned or we are hurt. We think that by holding on to this little piece of our heart, we are doing ourselves a favor.
On the contrary.
When we hold back this piece of our heart, we deny ourselves the greatest gift of all:
Full-on heart-abandon Love for our Savior.
The dictionary describes the word "abandon" in this way:
a : to give up to the control or influence of another person or agent
b : to give up with the intent of never again claiming a right or interest in
Now, think about abandoning your heart in this way to our Heavenly Father.
"To give up our hearts to the control of the Father", and "To give up our hearts with the intent of never claiming rights to it again. Never holding on to bits and pieces, but fully surrendering it."
Whew.
This is what it's like to love the Lord with all of our hearts, souls, and strength.
Father, help us to surrender these broken and scarred hearts to you. We are wrong when we hold onto pieces of the shatter. It only hurts us. We long to abandon our hearts to You. Today, we will not hold back. We give back every broken piece, every crushed and shattered remnant of these hearts of ours. In You, we are healed. Our hearts are fully whole again, when we give you full control over them. We agree to claim no more rights over this brokenness, but to surrender every debris over to You. Completely.
