Thursday SHINE....

Today's Reading: Matthew 24

Happy Serve Day Thursday! Okay, I have been waiting for TWO weeks to share something with you! It has been so hard to keep under wraps! I mean, I'm a girl...I love to share GOOD news!

Are you ready for a November to Remember?

In honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving Month, SHINE is having our very first SHINE Mission Project! Toe touch!! (stay with me, girls-- my 7th grade cheerleading self comes out every now and then!)

God has been so good to us. Teaching us, molding us, and imparting wisdom to our little hearts as we dive into His Word each day. He's more than good to us, He's everything.

So, for the past year, I have been praying that the Lord would lead us to a Mission Project that we could all participate in.

The Lord led me to a place called The Sparrow's Nest. My sister, Angela, and my very good friend, Missy Thomas, have served there for the past year.

The Sparrow's Nest offers many opportunities for the homeless and less fortunate in Athens, Georgia. They offer hot meals, laundering services, a free clothes closet, a bible study, and many many more services as well.

Here's how SHINE girls can help this incredible place:

We are having a Clothing and Canned food drive for them! Yes!

**The drop off for these items will be at my home church, Eastridge Community Church in Covington, Ga on Sunday November 18th from 2-5. If you cannot make that date work, let me know and we can arrange a pick-up from you. I highly encourage you to come to the Drop off Day, though. I want to meet you, fellowship with you and see your sweet faces!**

Is that simple, or what?

They are in desperate need of some items to sustain the needs of the homeless this Winter. Most of these items we all have in our home somewhere and can be easily given away for the needs of God's people.

Girls, what an easy and tangible way to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ. We can make a difference in the lives of these men and women who are desperate for basic needs.

"Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'"
Matthew 19:21

The Sparrow's Nest has given me a list of items that they need the most at this time:

**Non-perishable food items: peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meat, spam, little canned sausages with the pop-top lids, and potted meat.

**Men's clothing, children's clothing, diapers.

**Blankets, coats, sleeping bags, tents, hygiene kits with a wash rag, gloves, hats, back packs.

**Toiletry Items: travel shampoo, travel soap, small combs, toothbrushes, travel toothpaste, travel deoderant.

If you are not able to participate in our SHINE Mission Project, it is okay! If you would please just pray for this--our very frist SHINE Mission. Please pray that many, many families will be blessed by our SHINE Mission Project. Also pray that we will overwhelm them with items and that they will have MORE than enough to give to the needy this Winter.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."
 Matthew 25:35

I encourage you to get the word out to your friends and families. The more who participate the GREATER the blessing!!

Okay, so go through those closets and pantries and start collecting, girls! I want to see your beautiful faces on our SHINE Mission Project Drop-off Day! It will be the perfect opportunity to meet and greet with your other fellow SHINE sisters! Even if you have nothing to give at this time...COME ANYWAY!! :)
