Thursday SHINE...

Good morning, SHINE girls!

Here is today's reading: http://bible.us/1Sam9.1.MSG

Whew, is 1 Samuel getting juicy or what?!

I am finding myself sneaking ahead to the next chapter to see what happens next!

Before reading our daily scripture, I review the chapter from the day before. My brain is not what it used to be, (which wasn't much to begin with), so I have to refresh my memory on where the chapter left off.

As I read yesterday's passage of 1 Samuel 8 again, I was struck by something. It was as if the Lord had colored these words with a big yellow highlighter marker so that I would not miss them:

'It is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king." 1 Samuel 8:7

As I read this over and over, letting it fully sink into this little heart of mine...my eyes welled up with tears.

I could hear the Lord speaking to me through this verse.

You see, my whole life I have struggled with the fear of being rejected. It has been a struggle trying to overcome this in my adult life. (did i just say this out loud?)

When you have a fear of being rejected, you guard your heart. No, not just guard your heart, but you barricade your heart.

As a Christian woman, I often have felt rejected...many times. When this happens, insecurity creeps in, and the enemy whispers in my ear that I am  just not good enough...not smart enough...not pretty enough.

Girls! Are you getting this?

God is showing us, as SHINE girls, as women who long to serve Christ....that we are not the ones they are rejecting...it is HIM.

I am fiercely loyal to my loved ones, so this doesn't make me feel any better. However, it changes my perspective. It's really not about me....but about Him.

My barricade is breaking down day by day.

It may take a life time, but it is definitely a work in progress.

For this, I rejoice.

What about you?

Where is your barricade?

Maybe your barricade is around your pride, your children, your husband, your job....your heart?

I encourage my fellow SHINE girls...break it down, brick by brick. Let the soothing balm of the Savior heal that old festering wound that is being barricaded.

It's really not about us, girls.

It's about Him.

Aren't you glad?

brick by brick,

jill
