Remember…

Presley Jane, 2008

Sitting in my bed with computer sprawled across my lap, my daughter walks into the bedroom.

Mom, what’s wrong?? She worriedly asks.

Tears streaming down my face and looking like a hot mess, I told her I was just going through some old blog posts from our family blog.

Dating back from 2008, I was re-living the stories I had written. Children so small. Me, so much younger. Life just so…..different.

Why do you do this to yourself? She inquisitively asks me.

I think hard on that question before answering.

Because….because it helps me to keep perspective. I finally answer her.

When things arise that seem hard and like they will never get better, I like to go back through my life…tracing back words from prayer journals and blog posts.

It is a reminder to my heart….that life keeps moving. We don’t stay stuck.

God is Faithful.

He weaves and threads our lives and often it is hard to see what He could be doing.

Then, you look back one day and you see that those things that seemed like immovable mountains…eventually crumble to the ground.

A new path is made, and the journey continues.

The hardest days and seasons eventually fade away like mist on a cool morning window pane.

God’s Word reminds us to remember often. To look back and see what He has done.

“Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.” Isaiah 46:9

“Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you.” Deuteronomy 32:7

“I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.” Psalm 143:5

As I looked back at those old pictures, those old words on that screen and in the pages of prayer journals, I was reminded once again…

That God is Faithful. He makes paths through the Red Sea. He guides us through the darkest of valleys.

Are you facing a seemingly immovable mountain?

Look back over your life. Meet up with an old friend. Reconnect with someone from your past. Have some laughs, shed some tears and remember.

The enemy loves to taunt us with the overwhelming feeling that things will never get better.

Jesus tells in the book of John, “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

A full life, a life of abundance. Sometimes that includes heartache, grief, sadness, and loss.

When we look back and trace the years, we see that it is only a thread in the tapestry of our lives. Their is fullness and Joy to come. Hope is always with us through Jesus Christ.

“In Your Presence there is fullness of Joy.” 1 Peter 4:8
