Holy Hard…
So, I have been in a funk lately. Nothing is wrong, but life just seems weird.
Ever been in a weird place? I begged God yesterday to please re-kindle my spirit. LIGHT a fire in my heart, Lord. I need a nudge, a push, something….anything.
I think when life seems mundane, and slow, and molasses dripping…our faith can often be revealed the most. Or at least that is what my 20 year old son and I came up with over chips and salsa at the local Mexican restaurant last night.
We both decided we were in a weird place, so naturally chips and salsa soothed our weird- place feeling souls.
My friend, Renee Robinson, has written many times about holy ground being in the mundane…and I think she is on to something.
Often when BIG God sized things are happening, our faith soars and we are flying high on hope and faith!
Or, when we find ourselves in a storm, we feel the Presence of Jesus like never before. He comforts us and fills us with His Peace— breathing it into our lungs.
However, it is the in between times. The slower times. The times when nothing is really happening and life is just mundanely happening. The dishes, the laundry, the bills, the work, the yard, the children….all the things that make up our days.
They can wear on us.
In these times though….that is when we need Jesus the most. To look for Him as we scrub those dishes, as we bend over to mop the floor, as we put on another outfit and head out to our jobs, as we sit in the carpool line for the millionth time…
Maybe this is the sweet spot.
Could it be?
What if we are faithful in these little boring mundane things each day? Like, singing praises, giving thanks, smiling as we work, going the extra mile and really living out the scripture…
”Do everything as unto the Lord” Colossians 3:23
or..
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Colossians 3:23
The spiritual world is upside down from this world. Meaning, the things that are important in this world, will not be important in Heaven.
We will have no use for money, or food, or riches, or nice clothes, or fat bank accounts…
But what people don’t always see here on Earth will be the true riches in Heaven…
Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-Control
The fruits of the Spirit…those will be what last.
Are we tending to those fruits?
Maybe we ought to start.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:19-23
