Guard my heart....

Today's reading: Jeremiah 3:6-4:31
Find the Reading Plan here.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." Psalm 4:23

How is the guarding of your heart going? Is the Lord showing you ways to ensure that guard stays up? I sure hope so.

  • God's word
  • Prayer
  • Abstinence from things that trip up your guard
These are important things that ensure our hearts stay guarded and out of the mud and the muck.

I tell my children that when we read God's Holy Word every day, it is like putting a huge body filter over our clothes. God's Truth and His Word filters out the mess of the world. The dust starts to settle on us as soon as we roll out of bed.

Why do we want to be covered in that mess? We were meant to be guarded, protected, purified.

"Remove my sin and make me pure. Wash me until I am whiter than snow!" Psalm 51:7

Our Fun Friday Challenge:

Grab a note card, or small piece of paper.

Now grab a pen, or if you are like me, you prefer a Sharpie marker. :)

Write this: "Guard your heart--Proverbs 4:23"

I want you to take this card and put it somewhere that you need to be reminded of this. Maybe it's your car, your desk, your laptop, your cellphone, your magazine stash, your bookshelf, your wallet....

Put it somewhere that you are tempted to put that guard down. I challenge you.

Maybe even make it your screensaver. Be creative. Do what works best for you.

We have to be intentional about this. It's not a one time thing. It's a daily walk of guarding our hearts. It's a way of life.

Get ready to see some big changes in your life when you do this. You will become stronger, wiser, more discerning and aware of areas that loosen that guard.

Grabbing my Sharpie,

jill
