Wednesday SHINE....

Today's Reading: 2 Samuel 6

Happy Wednesday, SHINE girls!

We call Wednesdays, "Worship Wednesdays" around my house.

The reason is because we like to turn up the Praise music really, really loud and jam out in the car on the way to school. My son, Joseph, came up with the "Worship Wednesday" term.

That boy loves some worship music.

It's not just Wednesdays that we love worship music, but we decided that on Wednesdays we would have no talking, just praise music on the way to the 20 minute drive to school.

Coffee in one hand, and loud praise music in my ears.

 Perfection.

Ok, where am I going with this you ask?

Today we read about David dancing and celebrating as he was carrying the Ark of the Covenant into the City of David. My NIV bible describes David as "leaping and dancing before the Lord".

Once again, this David guy is my kind of man. He has no shame in showing some joy and excitement for His Lord.

However, one of his wives, Michal, sees him dancing and carrying on and she is embarrassed by him. She even despises him in her heart.

Michal is no fun. Me no likey her.

She then goes on to tell David exactly what she thought about his little spectacle of dancing and making a fool out of himself.

This is David's reply:

"David returned home to bless his family. Michal, Saul's daughter, came out to greet him: "How wonderfully the king has distinguished himself today—exposing himself to the eyes of the servants' maids like some burlesque street dancer!" David replied to Michal, "In God's presence I'll dance all I want! He chose me over your father and the rest of our family and made me prince over God's people, over Israel. Oh yes, I'll dance to God's glory—more recklessly even than this. And as far as I'm concerned...I'll gladly look like a fool...but among these maids you're so worried about, I'll be honored no end."

This is the part where I would stand up and clap if this were a movie that I was watching!

Did you hear his response?

He could care less what she thought of him, or what anyone thought of him.

I WANT to be like DAVID!

Girls, are we sometimes so concerned about how others view us that we miss the JOY that comes with serving the Lord?

Do we get all wrapped up in acting reverent and proper and good, that we miss the whole idea of FREEDOM in CHRIST? Not just freedom but JOY?

Are we sometimes like Michal when we see others doing crazy things in the name of the Lord?

Who are WE to judge?

We have no idea their hearts intention. Could it possibly be that their love for the Lord is so great that they cannot help but to show a little or a LOT of excitement?

I know for a fact that I am guilty of caring a little too much what others think of me. These past 5 years of my life, however, I have come a LONG way in this area.

I still struggle at times, though.

Do we care about what others think of us or what GOD Himself thinks of us?

Seriously, ponder that for a minute. Look at your life, and see if there have been times that you were restrained in saying what you feel, or doing what you feel, because of how others might view you.

Girls, this subject is so close to my heart. I feel like we have chains around our pretty little hearts sometimes, because of fear of what others think of us if we were to truly show ourselves.

Could we be missing out on the greatest JOY and FREEDOM of our lives?

YES!

Let's all agree today to look to HIM alone. Let's be like David today, and dance like nobody is watching us. Let's sing to the LORD like nobody can hear us.

Let's show the Lord today that HE is the only one that matters.

As well as this, let's make sure that we are not throwing water on someone else's fire for the Lord. (Like Michal did.)

He loves you so much, girls. He just wants our full attention, devotion, and praise.

Seriously, there is NO telling what He could do in our lives if we give this to Him.

Tune the world out today, girls. Tune the Lord in.

dancing down the driveway,

jill
