Monday SHINE....

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 31

Happy Monday, SHINE girls!

Boy, what a way to start our week.

1 Samuel ends with Saul's suicide. Whew, heavy stuff.

Not sure about y'all, but I felt so sorry for Saul as he ended his life. He made so many mistakes, and he consistently took the wrong path.

Sounds a lot like yours truly here. Yikes.

I noticed something in Chapter 28 as I reviewed our reading this weekend. Something struck a chord in my heart as I read about Saul visiting the witch to get answers.

Saul first inquired of the Lord, and didn't hear anything. So, he got desperate and went to long lengths to find a witch or a medium.  Saul wanted answers. He wanted answers NOW.

I wonder why Saul didn't wait to hear from the Lord? I wonder if Saul would have confessed his sins to God and cleansed his heart, if the Lord would have answered him?

I'm betting so.

How many times have I consulted a "medium" because I got impatient with the Lord? Okay, not a witch, but another form of a medium.

Like, my husband. My friends. My Momma. My sister. My Daddy.

I've often looked to them (the above mentioned) before I even think about looking to the Lord. I often go straight to them when I am desperate and in need of answers.

 They are my "middle men".

I cry to them for help and prayer, instead of going straight to the feet of Jesus.

Or perhaps, our "mediums"  or "middle men" are not people, but things. Things, such as:

  • shopping/spending
  • food
  • alcohol
  • drugs or meds

We often let these "mediums" come way before we take it to Jesus. They bring us temporary comfort and relief.

Isn't that kind of what Saul did? He got impatient with the Lord and went straight to another person for answers.

Aren't we the same way? We seek answers everywhere....except to the only One who can help us.

That One is Jesus.

We get really, really impatient with God.

When He doesn't answer us immediately, we get scared and start taking matters in our own hands.

Oooooh, this never works out good. Ever, ever.

I could tell you a million stories of times that I didn't wait to hear from God, so I went straight to my plan.

Bad, bad idea. (Wincing just thinking of those times.)

Whaddya say, girls? Let's go to Him first. Always.

Remember yesterday's post? The little note card thingy?

Don't roll your eyes at me...go, make your little note card. It will remind us Who to give it all to, first.

Yep, ALL of it.

this is my friend Mary's note card.
her handwriting is MUCH prettier than mine.
so, i am sharing hers. thank you, Mary!
skipping the middle man,

jill
